Children's Privacy Notice
Last updated: August 4, 2026
Accounts for students under 13 are always created and managed by a parent, guardian or teacher. This notice explains the consent we require, the small amount of data we collect, and how an adult can review or delete it at any time.
This document is a draft prepared for review. It must be reviewed by a qualified attorney in [GOVERNING JURISDICTION] before launch.
1. Who this notice is for
This notice applies only to accounts created for a student under 13. Most Piano GO Academy users are adults — adult learners, parents and teachers — and their data is covered by our Privacy Policy.
It is written to meet the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the children's provisions of the UK/EU GDPR ("GDPR-K").
2. Children cannot sign up on their own
Piano GO Academy does not knowingly allow anyone under 13 to create an account. An account for a child under 13 must be created and managed by a parent, legal guardian or that child's teacher, who holds the login credentials and remains responsible for the account.
3. Verifiable parental consent
During signup for a student account we:
- Ask who the account is for, and only continue down this path when a child under 13 is selected;
- Require the email address of the parent, guardian or teacher;
- Require an explicit checkbox confirming: “I am the parent, legal guardian or teacher of this student and I consent to the creation of this account”;
- Send a confirmation email to that address describing the data we collect and how to withdraw consent.
Where a teacher provides consent, the teacher confirms they have school or parental authority to do so. Consent can be withdrawn at any time by emailing us, which deletes the student account.
4. What we collect from a child account
We deliberately collect as little as possible:
- A first name or nickname (a full name is never required);
- The supervising adult's email address — the child does not need their own email;
- Learning progress: lessons opened, games played, scores, streaks and completed assignments;
- Basic technical data needed to keep the service secure.
We do not collect a child's photo, phone number, home address, precise location, or free-text public posts, and children cannot message other users.
5. No advertising and no selling of children's data
- We do not serve third-party advertising to child accounts.
- We do not use behavioural advertising, ad profiling or retargeting for child accounts.
- We never sell or rent children's personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- Progress data is used only to run the learning features and show reports to the supervising adult.
7. How a parent, guardian or teacher can review or delete data
- Review — sign in to the supervising account and open the learner's profile and progress reports.
- Correct — edit the learner's name and profile details in settings.
- Delete — remove the learner profile in settings, or email us to delete the entire account and its progress data.
- Export — email us for a copy of the learner's data in a portable format.
Email pianogoacademy@gmail.com from the address on the account. We verify the request and respond within 30 days. You can refuse further collection without losing access to the free Basic plan, though deleting the account ends access to progress features.
8. Retention
We keep a child's data only while the account is active. Accounts inactive for 24 months are deleted, and data deleted on request is removed from live systems immediately and from backups within 12 months.
9. If we learn a child signed up without consent
If we discover an account was created by a child under 13 without adult consent, we delete it and its data promptly. If you believe this has happened, please email us and we will act within 5 business days.
