What Happens Inside a Piano?

When a key goes down, a felt hammer flies up and strikes tightly stretched steel strings. The string vibrates, the soundboard amplifies, and the damper lifts to let the note sing. Release the key, and the damper falls back to silence the string. Inside a grand piano there are thousands of moving parts — each one carefully regulated to work together. It's part instrument, part machine, and completely alive under the hands of a player.
